7th May 2016- Chance Glass Community Walks

Our Jane’s walk on the 7th May 2016 was blessed with wonderful weather. We enjoyed a canal side ramble and a tour of Chance Glassworks led by Mark Davies from the Chance Glass Heritage Trust. We were treated to a rare glimpse of the inner workings of the Chance Brothers site where we were introduced to the engine (taken from a submarine) that powered the water cooling system around the factory. More (professional) photos for you to enjoy shortly.

We were also treated to a canal side tour by local canal expert Wayne Sieverns and his dog Gem. The walk was supported by the Friends of Galton Valley at the New Smethwick Pump House who opened up especially for us along with a nice cup of tea with a biscuit.

Come an join us on a ramble through the Smethwick canal network, take in the sights, sounds and history of Smethwick.

One walk will give a limited number of people (by advanced booking only) the opportunity to take a look inside the iconic seven storey Chance Glassworks building
The other walk will be a walk along the Smethwick canals, hearing a little about their heritage and that of the Chance Bros
